How Does CGC Grade Collectibles?

Every collectible is inspected by at least two (2) professionals. CGC grades trading cards on a 10-point scale, evaluating factors such as centering, corners, edges, and surface condition. The cards are also examined for signs of alteration, restoration, or counterfeit. After grading, the cards are encapsulated in a tamper-evident, archival-quality holder, which preserves the card’s condition and protects it from damage. Additionally, all cards will be imaged and accessible via a QR code on each slab (Example).

CGC’s reputation as an authentication and grading service is based on its rigorous standards and procedures and its team of highly trained and knowledgeable experts. All submitted cards go through a detailed grading process: Receiving, Verification, Authentication, Grading, Encapsulation, Imaging, Quality Control, Packaging, and Shipping.
